The Access to Information draft (A2I) law was prepared by the Legal Working Group of the Network, endorsed by the Network, and submitted to parliament on April 9, 2009, by members of the Lebanese Parliamentarians Against Corruption (LebPAC) Ghassan Moukheiber, Yassine Jaber, Abdallah Hanna, Ismail Sukkarieh and Jawad Boulos.
We currently are in the process of informing and lobbying all members of parliament about the draft law to ensure its speedy adoption in committees and by Parliament. This effort is led, on a peer-to-peer basis, by LebPAC in collaboration with Network member Nahwa Al Muwatiniya (Na-aM).
To that effect, LebPAC MPs and Na-aM trained lobbyists from all backgrounds are visiting members of parliament to familiarize them with A2I concepts and the proposed law. MPs and respective parliamentary groups are encouraged to:
- Sign on to an endorsement commitment
- Include A2I in their political agenda
- Advance A2I within their political party/group
- Promote A2I in future public events
Na-am also organized a conference in collaboration with the Safadi Foundation, under the title "Enhancing Transparency and Combating Corruption: “The Access to Information” and “Whistleblower Protection” Draft Laws in Lebanon"
