The Legal Working Group (LWG) of the Network is in the process of drafting a Whistleblower Protection law.

Also, outside the framework of the project, a draft law on fighting corruption in the public sector has been submitted to the Lebanese Parliament and endorsed by the Justice and Administration Parliamentary Committee on February 23, 2009. This draft law provides for the establishment of an independent Anti-Corruption Commission.

Since this anti-corruption bill is likely to pass, the LWG has elected to submit a memorandum suggesting amendments to various aspects of the draft law.

What Is Whistleblower Protection?

According to the Plain Language Guide developed by Transparency International (TI):

“Whistleblowing is the sounding of an alarm by an employee, director, or external person, in an attempt to reveal neglect or abuses within the activities of an organisation, government body or company (or one of its business partners) that threaten public interest, its integrity and reputation.”
